These days, there is a tendency to speak of vulnerability as intrinsic to empathy. “We are all humans”, or as John Legend sings, “we are just ordinary people”. These are a few expressions that point to the disposition to embrace one’s own shortcomings and insecurities as integral to the makings of humanness.
